Do you think “Affirmative Action Bake Sales” make a good point, or are they a simplistic exaggeration?

Question by Thinker: Do you think “Affirmative Action Bake Sales” make a good point, or are they a simplistic exaggeration?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Affirmative_action_bake_sale

“An affirmative action bake sale is a campus protest event used by student groups to illustrate criticism of affirmative action policies, especially as they relate to college and graduate school admissions.”

“The bake sales offer to sell cookies at different prices depending on the customer’s race and sex, imitating the racial and sexual preference practices of affirmative action. One idea of such bake sales is to demonstrate analogies between price discrimination and affirmative action. A typical pricing structure charges $ 1.00 for White and Asian males, $ .75 for White and Asian females, $ .50 for Latino, Black, and Native American males and $ .25 for Latino, Black, and Native American females. The bake sales’ hosts do not support this kind of preferential treatment; rather, they argue that this preferential pricing is analogous to the preferential treatment created by affirmative action policies.”

laboratory but supposedly had “integration” problems).

< If someone shows me 100 examples of something, proving their point, I always assume there are 100 examples in their files DISproving their point, but they simply didn't show me that.
If i'm not there witnessing all of their tests, i believe none of their results.
Is this rational?

A/ by Tiffany/ I think that the test depends on the scientist and the reason for them performing the test. If a drug company hires a group of scientists to do studies for their drug, they could purposely make the study (variables, controls, etc) poor in order to get the results they were hired for.

This isn't going to always be the case. A real experiment is meant to be done in an objective way. Heck, even in scientific writing you can't say "I or We" unless it's in a certain portion of it. If an unbiased experiment is performed and gives solid results, repeatedly, then--or at least in some cases--other scientists will come along years later and falsify that experiment. Not always on purpose, but they may run the experiment and find a different result or theory for the results that falsifies the orignial research. In which case, this is good to have. It is good to have experiments that test and get results; then have them tested again at a later date to see if they are falsifiable. Sadly, to the dismay of the scientist.

Just my opinion, based on science courses at the university and such.

A/ by Man Of Merkury /Certainly. Though , they may be somewhat bias and flawed, there is still enough valuable information as well as key points, to make your own rendition and judgment of the propblem or situation, and perhaps bring in your OWN bias opinion and all while making fit well and making most sense to you, yourself the individual.

A/ by cosmicwi... /figure out who is paying for the study and you know what they are looking for.

studies only document what they want to find - same with statistics.

know this the possibilities are limitless

integrity and objectivity are missing in most if not all findings - even if money did not corrupt people will support only what they want to see - they can not see what they do not know.

A/ by phil8656 /The "Scientific Method" of experimentation eliminates those flaws. In order to prove something you have to disprove it. Proof is then the failure to disprove.

A/ by witnessp.../Took me years to realise this.

I had a team leader with the unfortunate acronym "Kenny Poo". I soon found out why. We were testing a system "A". Kenny Poo's proposal was to test system A, and a system "B", together. If a test failed, the test was repeated till it "passed". The failure was explained away as caused by the unreliability of system B.

To me system A seemed to be, and probably was, junk, but was sold to a hapless customer as "passing" the testing.>>

Any or all of the above could be reasonable answers, I don’t think theres any need to clarify that their were faults all through the whole ordeal, it whether you can prove it is what is the major obstacle :)

Who currently owns the rights to SolarQuest (the board game)? – try 2?

Question by Destroy 8 9: Who currently owns the rights to SolarQuest (the board game)? – try 2?
This wiki article is the game I’m talking about. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Solarquest

So, I’m interested in knowing who owns the rights to it today. In other words, if someone was going to create something based on this game today, who should be contacted?

I got a fairly good response before (from Long John Silver), but there wasn’t a source stated. AND, I contacted Hasbro’s customer support and they replied that they don’t own the rights to Solarquest.

So, who really own’s the rights to Solarquest. If it is Hasbro, then how do you know that. Please provide a source as well.
Samuel. Is that spam? I am afraid to open that link at work because I have no idea where the link goes.

A kid calls Lucasarts and asks customer support if Star Wars Battlefront 3 is comming out. Links: Pre-order Receipt: tinyurl.com Star Wars Battlefront 3 Speculation Website: tinyurl.com News (via www.battlefront3.net ) So, I received some promising news this morning in my email, which may bring a couple smiles to a few Battlefront 3 fans. On December 10th, I came across a link on the LucasArts forums (Thanks: robpolman) which included a link to an actor (Chris Marazzo) who has recently done some work with LucasArts on the secretly rumored Battlefront 3. I thought this was very interesting, so I took the liberty of sending Chris an email. Basically, I asked him if he had the time to discuss what he had done with LucasArts and if he could disclose some information on the Battlefront 3 project. So, this morning, while checking my email, I had a glorious response from Chris. Heres what he had to say: Hey Aaron, Thanks for getting in touch. The Original Title was Battlefront 3 but it evolved into Star Wars Empire at War: Forces of Corruption I though that this was fairly interesting, I had no idea that this was even considered to Battlefront 3. This was the highlight of the conversation though: However Battlefront 3 is also in development. It was by far the Most Fun and Coolest Casting I ever worked on. Sweeet! Cant get much more direct than that! Naturally, of course, I cant confirm that this is truly accurate, but by the sounds of it, it looks like we will get our

Does anyone know an online learning center solution to upload documentation for customers?

by Chris Devers

Question by PK: Does anyone know an online learning center solution to upload documentation for customers?
My company has given me the amazing (ugh) task of finding an online learning center (or customer extranet) for our customers. I’ve been looking everywhere and I can’t seem to find the right fit for these requirements:

1)Needs to have a login
2)All users cannot see each other (no profiles, many are competitors to each other)
3)Not wiki style, all documents are in .pdf format and needs to support video (though I forget which format)

Any help is appreciated!

Is it possible to create a Ning without public profiles?

What do you think? Answer below!

Probably the most elaborate prank of its kind ever, it was a huge hit on ° VRT (Belgium) television January 10, 2011. To share it with the rest of the world, English subtitles were a must. Enjoy! To see the captions, click on the YouTube text bubble. Mathieu, the security guard, became a folk hero overnight for his friendly demeanor. Program link: www.een.be Original clip: www.youtube.com Mobistar commented after the broadcast that their call center problems had been temporary, and that more people had since been hired to shorten wait times. The music choice is brilliant as well: Background: “Green Leaves of Summer” from John Wayne’s 1960 epic “The Alamo”, and also used in “Inglorious Basterds”. ‘On hold’ song: “Hello, is it me you’re looking for?” by Lionel Richie. Update: The Basta guys are unstoppable. On Jan 17, they unveiled a 6 month undercover operation on the producers of nightly call-in “quizzes”. This demonstrated what everybody suspected for years, ie that they are a scam. The authorities weren’t able (or willing) to ban them. The day after Basta’s broadcast , the games were cancelled. On Jan 24, they went after SABAM, a Belgian artists rights and copyright collective. If you understand Flemish / Dutch, you can see all the episodes at: www.een.be
